37 Essex Avenue

Dear Future Homeowners of 37 Essex Avenue

Believe it or not, we saw more than 60 houses in our search for the perfect home. Many of them were the standard colonial, but this house — the most charming Tudor, with a unique, flowing layout, and tons of beautiful details — was different. We loved it immediately. So much in fact, that we decided to put in an offer before even seeing the second floor! Call it destiny, fate, or intuition, we knew a chapter of our lives would play out here. Five years later, this home has exceeded all of our expectations. To put it simply, 37 Essex Avenue is magic. The afternoon light floods the house, then dances and sparkles till the last rays set. French windows perfectly frame the changing seasons and the cathedral ceilings in the primary bedroom lift your spirits nearly as high as they are. All are part of the home’s immeasurable charm. This cheerful house set the stage for our happiest times. We had breakfast in the morning sun and epic dance parties with the kids in the kitchen. There were baby showers and the births of our two children, first birthdays, dinner parties, and summer backyard get-togethers with family and friends. With food on the grill and kids running through the sprinklers, laughter filled the air. This is more than just a house. 37 Essex came with the kindest neighbors, who became dear friends. They celebrated with us, helped us out in a pinch, taught us the best way to grow a vegetable garden, and watched our daughter when labor started with our son. And with its location at the intersection of Maplewood and South Orange, just a short walk from the South Orange train station, you will feel equally part of both communities — the epitome of SOMA. Explore the myriad of parks and playgrounds that surround you. Have a blast at local events like Maplewoodstock and Porchfest, and devour all the delicious food these towns have to offer. We have absolutely loved caring for this house, updating its systems and adding improvements that made us happy, kept us comfortable and would benefit owners to come. We are sad to leave, but our work is taking us to Washington DC. We hope you find as much joy living in this happy home and wonderful neighborhood as we have.
