36 Rutgers Street

Dear Future Homeowner,

Over 20 years ago, we stepped into this house and knew it had the right flow, balanced spaces, and beautiful natural light to start our family. We chose the College Hill area even before having kids, appreciating its easy commute to NYC and close proximity to all that Maplewood offers. Throughout our time here, we've enjoyed countless walks and bike rides around town – to the village, the libraries, many of the town parks, the pool, yoga and fitness classes, and school.

As our two children grew, the rooms in this house filled with their laughter and the energy of their friends. The thoughtful division of spaces and cozy nooks proved perfect for playdates, sleepovers, game nights, and countless homemade birthday parties, where the natural loop from the kitchen to the living room kept everyone entertained.

Beyond the walls, our backyard became a true extension of our home. We planted the large tree the year our daughter was born and have watched it grow, providing welcome shade and the ideal spot for a lazy day in a hammock. The backyard has hosted many birthday parties, summer barbecues, and years of fun with swing sets, a basketball hoop, and a trampoline when the kids were younger. Over time, the firepit became a favorite gathering place for our family and friends.

One of our favorite places in the house is the large, open living room filled with ample light. Not only did we host annual birthday parties here, but it was also spacious enough to serve as a "pseudo" rehearsal dance studio for our daughter during her time in Columbia High School’s special dance program. As a home to an artist, we also proudly opened our doors during the SOMA Artist Studio Tour, displaying our artwork – some of which you can see on the walls as you walk through the house today.

The convenience of being in close proximity to both Maplewood Village and Springfield Avenue has made everyday life easy. Local shops, diverse restaurants, and engaging activities are just around the corner, and beloved Maplewood events like the annual MayFest on Springfield Avenue and the weekly Summer Farmer’s market are just a stone’s throw away.

College Hill offers a wonderful sense of community, and Rutgers Street has its own special neighborhood feel with lovely neighbors – a welcoming mix of long-time residents and young families. We always look forward to the annual block party and yard sales. It's been heartwarming to see our daughter and son grow up here and become trusted babysitters, dog walkers, and swim instructors for many of the Rutgers Street kids and pets. It truly brings it all full circle to see other families trust their children with our own.

While life is now taking us in a new direction, this house and town have been truly special to us, offering a place filled with many cherished friends and memories. Now that our kids are grown, we sincerely hope that you find the same warmth and sense of community that this home has so generously provided to us.

Wishing you many happy years at 36 Rutgers Street.

Warmly,

Wendy & Niv
